Environment

Verastream Host Integrator (VHI) - version 7.0 and later

Situation

Connection to an IBM host system fails when "Use SSL/TLS" is checked in connection settings.
The Design Tool displays the following error message when trying to connect the session:

[VHI 3050] SSL Error - Could not complete the SSL connection.
[VHI 3053] SSL Error: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.

If the model is already deployed to the Verastream Server, the error looks similar but different, as shown in model debug messages:

[VHI 3050] SSL Error - Could not complete the SSL connection.
[VHI 3048] SSL Error - Syscall.
[VHI 2704] An error occurred in communications - Host refused to connect.

Resolution

These errors will be logged when:

1. the host telnet server is not configured to support TLS encryption on the port provided for the connection. Make sure the port you specify actually supports TLS connections.

-or-

2.  the host telnet server requires "Client Authentication", but VHI has not yet been set up to support that. Configure the Verastream ServerKit or DevKit installation to support TLS with Client Authentication, as described in this documentation: https://documentation.microfocus.com/help/topic/com.attachmate.vhi.help/html/reference/ssl_tls.xhtml
