Environment
Micro Focus iPrint Appliance 3.x
40 iPrint printers configured for private email printing
40 iPrint printers configured for private email printing
Situation
When using the private email feature with an iPrint printer, the print job takes between 2 to 3 minutes to print out.
Resolution
Increase these two parameters in the /etc/opt/novell/iprintmobile/conf/iprintmobile.conf file:
num_email_receiver_threads=0
num_email_receiver_threads=0
Divide the number of printers configured for private email with the number 5. For example, if you have 40 printers configured for email printing, then the value to place after num_email_receiver_threads would be 8.email_polling_interval=30000
email_polling_interval configures the interval (in milliseconds) at which emails are fetched from the mail servers. 30000 milliseconds means the iPrint Appliance will fetch email messages every 30 seconds. If you need this quicker, you could try a value of 10000 (every 10 seconds).After configuring the iprintmobile.conf file, you must restart the iPrint Mobile service through the Management Console, or type the following within a terminal session:
rcnovell-iprint-mobile restart
Cause
The default settings are too low. There may be another factors, like email server reply time, Internet traffic, etc that could influence the speed as well.
Additional Information
With the default configuration, 8 email addresses are polled every 30 seconds. With 40 printers configured for private email printing, a print job potentially won't be fetched for 150 seconds. [(40/8) * 30 = 150] That is too slow for most end users.
