Environment

Micro Focus Filr 3.3

Situation

Starting with iOS 11, iOS devices store photos using the new HEIC format. When attempting to view these photos on a Windows client system, there are no applications found to view the files. The default photo viewing applications such as Microsoft Photos or Paint currently do not support viewing HEIC format.

Resolution

There are several 3rd party applications that support viewing/editing HEIC format files. Download and install a photo viewer application on the Windows client system which supports viewing HEIC format files.

Cause

The native Windows OS currently does not support opening or viewing files in the HEIC format.

Additional Information

Note: Viewing the files on the Filr mobile app for iOS works.
iOS users can take photos within the Filr app and when uploaded via Filr the format will be in JPEG.
iOS 11, on devices that support HEIC, does allow for the format to be changed.  In Settings | Camera | Formats you can change from High Efficiency to Most Compatible.  All new photos will now use JPEG format.  See https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207022 for additional information.
