Situation

This update provides an updated Filr Desktop client for Windows users to prevent a Blue Screen crash when working with MS Office files.

Resolution

Overview:
This update is intended to address the issues outlined in the following TID:

  1. TID 7022261 - Windows Blue Screen (BSOD) crash when saving MS Office files using Filr Desktop client


System Requirements:
This patch should only be applied to a site that is currently on:
Novell Filr Appliance version: 2.0.0.421-HP.492


Important Notes:

  • This patch requires that your Filr site is patched with 'Filr 2.0 - Hot Patch 4'.
  • This patch is applicable to the Filr appliance only, it is NOT applicable to the Filr Search or Filr MySQL appliances in a Large Filr deployment.
  • In a clustered deployment, apply the patch to each Filr application server node in the cluster.
  • This patch will update the Filr Desktop application if it is hosted on the Filr appliance(s).
  • If your Filr deployment hosts the Filr Desktop application on a separate web server OR you use a client management software such as ZENWorks, please download the updated Filr Desktop application (NovellFilrAutoUpdate.tgz) package from the Novell Download page (title Novell Filr Desktop 2.0 - November 16, 2017) and follow the update instructions in the Filr Administration Guide.
  • An equivlent patch for Filr 3.0 is available via the Micro Focus Patch Finder under Filr 3.0.


Installation:
This patch comprises of 1 zip file:
a. Filr-2.0.0.493.HP.zip

Follow these steps to install the patch:
  1. Download the patch file: (a) Filr-2.0.0.493.HP.zip
  2. Login to the Filr Appliance Configuration console (https://hostname:9443).
  3. Under Appliance Configuration, select Field Patch icon.
  4. Browse and select the patch file you downloaded in Step 1.
  5. Select Install and wait for confirmation that the patch has been applied.
  6. A reboot is NOT required and Filr service will be restarted automatically after the patch has been applied.


Uninstalling:

  1. Login to the Filr Appliance Config (https://hostname:9443).
  2. Under Appliance Configuration, select Field Patch icon.
  3. Select 'Uninstall Latest Patch' and wait for confirmation that the patch has been uninstalled.
  4. A reboot is NOT required and Filr service will be restarted automatically after the patch has been uninstalled.
