File Locations in Reflection for the Web or Reflection Security Gateway

Situation

This technical note describes the file location for Reflection for the Web or Reflection Security Gateway files saved on users' computers.

Resolution

The file locations can be viewed in the Java Console. See Technical Note 1433 for instructions on enabling the Java Console.

There are three locations listed in the Java Console that apply to Reflection for the Web or Reflection Security Gateway (hereinafter referred to as Reflection):

  • Reflection cache folder (RWEB_CACHE)
  • Reflection preferences folder (RWEB_PREFS)
  • Reflection user home folder (USER_HOME)

Note: Users can also obtain these locations by clicking Help > About Reflection, and then click the System Information tab on the "About Reflection for the Web" or "About Reflection Security Gateway" dialog box.

Windows 7 and Windows Vista Example

For example, for a VT emulation session on a Windows 7 or Vista machine using the Sun JVM 1.4 or higher, the entries in the Java Console would look similar to these:

LAUNCHER VT@15FB38: RWEB_CACHE = C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp\Low\reflectionweb_<username>
LAUNCHER VT@15FB38: RWEB_PREFS = C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\reflectionweb
LAUNCHER VT@15FB38: USER_HOME = C:\Users\<username>

Note: On some Vista machines the location of the RWEB_CACHE may vary slightly if you disabled the Protected Mode security feature in Internet Explorer 7. In this case, the file location would not include the \Low folder. For example:

RWEB_CACHE = C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp\reflectionweb_<username>

Windows XP Example

For a VT emulation session on a Windows XP machine using the Sun JVM 1.4 or higher, the entries in the Java Console would look similar to these:

LAUNCHER VT@162E295: RWEB_CACHE = C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temp\reflectionweb_<username>
