Environment

Reflection Desktop (including Pro, for IBM, or for UNIX and OpenVMS) 16.0 or higher
Reflection 2014
Reflection for IBM 2014
Reflection for IBM 2011
Reflection Standard Suite 2011

Situation

This technical note describes how to convert existing Rumba Mainframe and AS/400 display session settings for use in Reflection Desktop 16, Reflection 2014, or Reflection 2011, how to create a conversion report, and lists which connection and terminal settings are converted.

Resolution

Converting Rumba Display Session Files

Converting Rumba display session files for use in Reflection is an easy process. Once you have converted the files, review the settings in Reflection to determine which settings have or have not been converted. If a record is needed of the converted settings, Reflection can be run with the –legacyreport option to create a conversion report.

Note: If a Rumba display session setting does not have an equivalent in Reflection, it is not converted.

To convert Rumba display session files in Reflection, follow these steps:

  1. Locate and launch the Rumba mainframe or AS/400 display session file in Reflection.
  2. Examine the connection and terminal properties—the converted settings—in Reflection.
  3. Save the settings in Reflection.

Creating a Conversion Report

Follow the steps below to create a conversion report:

  1. Start Reflection from the command line using the –legacyreport option, for example:
Example for Reflection 2011:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Attachmate\Reflection\Attachmate.Emulation.Frame.exe" -f "<sessionName>" –legacyreport

Example for Reflection Desktop 16:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Micro Focus\Reflection\Attachmate.Emulation.Frame.exe" -f "<sessionName>" –legacyreport

Note: If the command above does not work, try removing the "" quote symbols; your operating system may not require them.

  1. Open the Rumba conversion report file, Rumba.txt, located in the My Documents folder on your workstation, and examine the converted session settings. The report is in comma delimited format, so is best viewed in a spreadsheet program, such as Microsoft Excel.

Note: Each converted Rumba session file overwrites the existing Rumba.txt. If you need to retain the conversion information for each session, you must rename the Rumba.txt file after each conversion.

Converted 3270 Settings

The following Rumba settings are converted, with caveats noted as applicable.

  • Host Name
  • Up to 25 Backup Host Names
  • Port
  • Device Name
  • Auto Connect
  • Auto Reconnect Session
  • Connect Timeout
  • Host Character Set – Only code pages that have an equivalent in Reflection are supported.
  • Display types: If you selected Extended Attributes on Rumba’s TN3270 Advanced tab, Model IDs convert to Model 2E..
  • KeepAlive – If you selected KeepAlive in Rumba, the setting converts to KeepAliveNone.
  • Do Only TN3270 – If this option is not selected in Rumba, the setting converts to TN3270 Enhanced in Reflection.
  • SSL setting in Rumba becomes SSL3 in Reflection.

3270 Settings Not Converted

The following Rumba settings are not converted in Reflection Desktop 16, Reflection 2014, or Reflection 2011:

Terminal Type
Reestablish Connection Interval/Attempts
Suppress Dialogs
NonSNA Command Chaining
Response

Converted AS/400 Settings

The following Rumba settings are converted, with caveats noted as applicable.

  • Host Name – A primary host name is supported; backup hosts for AS/400 sessions are not ported to Reflection.
  • Port
  • Device Name
  • Auto Connect
  • Auto Reconnect
  • Host Character Set – Only code pages that have an equivalent in Reflection are supported.
  • Display Size – The two display sizes, 24x80 and 27x132, become Model ID 3179-2 and 3477-FC respectively.
  • Auto Sign-on – If you selected Auto Sign-on in Rumba, AutoSignon is set to UseSpecifiedCredentials in Reflection, otherwise it is set to Off. When set to UseSpecifiedCredentials, Reflection opens a dialog box that requests a user name and password.

AS/400 Settings Not Converted

The following Rumba settings are not converted in Reflection:

Auto Disconnect
Prompt On Connect
Exit On Disconnect
Connect Timeout
Suppress Dialogs
Always Resolve QPWDLVL System Value
Security settings – Rumba display session security settings are encrypted, and therefore, are not converted.
