Filr 3.2
Situation
After installing the Filr Windows Desktop Application, when right-clicking on the Filr system tray icon and choosing the "Open Filr Folder" option, the Filr folder displayed in Windows Explorer is empty. None of the expected folder, "My Files", "Net Folders", and "Shared by Me" are present.
Right-clicking on the Filr system tray icon and choosing the "Visit Filr on the web" option displays the contents as expected.
Resolution
If Windows 7, first verify that MS Update 3033929 is installed. If so, and for other Windows versions:
1. In Windows Component Services > Services (Local), ensure that the "Novell Filr Caching Service" is running.
2. Launch CMD as Administrator, and run "fltmc" and ensure that "FiltrDriver" is running.
3. Examine C:\users\<user>\AppData\Local\Novell\Filr\filr_dialog.log and look for an error such as:
ERROR FilrRestLib.WebServiceClient - Exception in WebServiceClient::GET(/self/net_folders)-[System.Net.WebException: The underlying connection was closed: Could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel. ---> System.Security.Authentication.AuthenticationException: The remote certificate is invalid according to the validation procedure.
To correct this problem, repair the 3rd party certificate. Optionally, use the self-signed certificate by following these steps:
1. In a web browser, navigate to the Filr port 9443 administration page.
2. Login as vaadmin, and click on the "Digital Certificates" button.
3. In the "Key Store" dropdown, select "Web Application Certificates". There will be an entry for "self-signed_cert, and possibly another, 3rd party certificate.
4. Select the "self-signed_cert" entry and click on the "Set as Active" option in the menu bar. Confirm the selection, then note the Alert: "Note: services which use the active certificate must be restarted before the changes will take effect."
5. Click on the "Update Certificate Chain" item in the menu bar, and confirm your choice.
6. Close the Digital Certificates window.
7. Click the "Reboot" button and allow the Filr appliance to reboot.
Cause
A necessary process is not running, or the 3rd Party certificate installed on the Filr appliance is bad.
