GWAVA 4 SMTP Scanner

Situation

What is RBL connection drop and how do I set it up?

Resolution

The Perform RBL connection drop option found under the SMTP interface is a feature which allows the GWAVA 4 SMTP engine to drop incoming connections that are listed in RBL databases at connection time. This option is only available with the SMTP scanner.

There are two ways to enable RBL connection drop. You can enable it when setting up an SMTP scanner or enable it under the mail interface settings after installing a SMTP scanner. To enable this feature at the time you setup your scanner, simply proceed through the wizard for creating an SMTP scanner. You will note that Perform RBL drop at connection is already checked by default.

Leave the option checked to have the scanner setup with that option enabled. If the option was not enabled at the time the scanner was installed, then this feature can later be enabled. Go to Server/Scanner Management | [your server] | Manage scanners | [your SMTP scanner] | Configure SMTP settings | Mail interface settings. On the SMTP interface page you will find the Perform RBL connection drop option.

To enable the option, simply check its checkbox and save the settings. It is important to note that in order for this option to be active, the RBL event must be enabled. You can find the RBL event under the scanning configuration for the scanner or you can simply click the Edit RBL servers link on the SMTP interface page.
