Choosing a Particular Exchange Database

I have multiple mailbox databases and not all of them are active, how can I just choose the ones I want?

Exchange allows you to create multiple mailbox databases and Retain allows you to choose which mailbox databases it connects to for archiving.

All you have to do is go in Data Collection/Job/Mailboxes and expand the Mail Servers and the Mail Server to see the individual databases.



Here you can choose the main database, the archive database or if you have a DAG the active database on a particular server.

In a DAG just choose the active database(s) so Retain doesn't have to dredge all the messages over again from each redundant database.
