Situation

Can I install Retain on a server that doesn't have a connection to the Internet?

Resolution


Yes. You can install Retain on a server that doesn't have a connection to the internet if you follow a few additional prerequisites.  This document gives instructions for both Retain 3.5.1 for Windows.  Retain 4.0.3 and later have a method built into the installer to handle these situations.

1. Download and install Java.

This KB will show an example of installing Retain to the default location but this is not required:

2. Set Java Environment Variables.

The key environment variables that Retain keys off of for java are:

  • RETAIN_JAVA_HOME
  • RETAIN_JAVA_VERSION
  • RETAIN_JRE_HOME

You will need to add the environment variables manually if not already listed within: Control Panel > System > Advanced system settings > Environment Variables > System variables.

3. Run Retain Installation

Go through installation process like normal. When you arrive at the Java Installation page, just click Next.

4. Complete Retain Installation
