Situation
-cannot search contents of .doc or .pdf files (need to enable indexing of these prior to completing this article)
Resolution
By default, Retain does not have .doc and .pdf extension for files enabled for indexing. Enable them by going to Server Configuration, then select the Index sub-tab. Enable/disable the .doc. and .pdf extensions (and any others that are desired in the list). Before forcing the indexing, the index flags in the database have to be changed. When Retain indexes a file it flags it as indexed in the database. It will not try and index any file that has been flagged. As a result, even forcing the indexing will not cause the old attachments content to be searchable. To set the index flags, follow this article.
