Environment
GWAVA 4 Netware 6.5 SP5+ LINUX OES, SLES9.3, SLES10.x
Situation
What are the advantages and disadvantages of having GWIA block messages for RBL rather than GWAVA blocking them?
Resolution
GWIA has the capability of blocking messages that are to be found on blacklists, either RBL .That is setup within ConsoleOne of your GWIA properties.
The advantages of having the GWIA block RBL's are that the messages get stopped before they even enter the system. This can increase performance on the system especially when getting bombarded with tremendous amounts of spam. It also can increase efficiency with the GroupWise system as these SPAM messages will get bounced back and allow more good mail to come through at a faster rate.
The disadvantage of it though is that the GWIA does not have an ability to archive or quarantine these particular messages that have been put on a black list. GWAVA is able to store these messages in the Quarantine Management System and allows you to release them. If a legitimate message gets blocked by RBL you will be able to retrieve the message by releasing it from the QMS or the digest within GWAVA.
