Environment

GWAVA4 (All Builds) Netware and Linux

Situation

We just upgraded to GroupWise 8 and now mail is flowing but is not being scanned by GWAVA4

Resolution

When GroupWise 8 is installed it is installed to a new/different directory structure then previous versions of GroupWise and some of the files are replaced with newer versions to accommodate the GroupWise 8 configuration settings.  One of the files that is renamed and replaced is the "gwia.cfg".  This file stores the "smtp home" switch that is used to enable GWAVA4.  The previous "gwia.cfg" is saved and renamed to "gwia.cfg.bak".

Follow these steps to restore scanning by GWAVA4!

  • Open the new "gwia.cfg" and the previous "gwia.cfg.bak" (default location is sys:/system for NetWare and /opt/novell/groupwise/agents/share/bin for Linux)
  • Copy the "smtp home" switch from the "gwia.cfg.bak" file and paste it in the new "gwia.cfg" file.  (smtp home switch is located at the bottom of the file and will look similar to --smtphome  ../domain/wgpate/gwia/3rd)
  • Save the changes to "gwia.cfg"
  • Restart the GWIA
Mail will now go into ../domain/wpgate/gwia/3rd/recieve to be scanned!
