Dbcopy Stalls During Reload Backup / Firewall Requirements

Environment

Reload (all versions)

Situation

A customer couldn't get a backup to run on a post office.  Dbcopy seemed to just stall after being launched by Reload.

Resolution

The customer had the firewall enabled on the post office server.  Internal GWAVA testing seems to indicate that only the NFS Server service needs to be allowed in order for a Reload backup job to complete on SLES 11 SP2; however, for this customer, he had to make an exception for the IP address of the Reload server in order for the backups to start working.

This KB article will be updated as more information comes in from other customers that have employed firewalls on their post office servers.

If you have the firewall enabled on the Reload server as well, see KB article, "Implementing Reload for the First Time - Here's Some Good Help".  There is a section on firewall exceptions needed for Reload servers.
