Retain Publisher giving MAPI_E_INVALID_ENTRYID Errors

Situation


Retain Publisher is erroring out. The log indicates the root cause to be:

System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80040107): Error in IMAPISession::OpenEntry: MAPI_E_INVALID_ENTRYID

Resolution


The customer was running the Retain Publisher software on a Windows 2008 SP2 Server. We decided to install the Retain Publisher software on a Windows 7 machine and that fixed the problem.
