Environment

Client for Open Enterprise Server 2 SP4 (IR5)

Situation

After installing Client for Open Enterprise Server 2 SP4 IR5 when a user logs in, User Account Control prompts the user with, "Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?

Client Update Agent (CUAGENT) is enabled.  In the Windows registry, this setting is present:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Novell\Client\Update Agent]
"Enabled"=dword:00000001

Resolution

Clicking on the "Yes" response button allows the installation process to proceed normally.

An bug has been entered to improve the text of the message to make it more clear to the user.

Cause

The UAC message with the description "Client for OES INetCfg Interface EXE" is referencing "SETUPNC.EXE /T", which is invoked when the user logs in when Client Update Agent (CUAGENT) is enabled.

When CUAGENT has been enabled to apply NCPF file changes (See TID 7014491), it evaluates whether the NCPF file's time stamp is different from the "last applied" NCPF file time stamp (i.e. has the NCPF file content potentially been changed) and potentially re-applies the NCPF file.  This results in the user seeing a UAC prompt to confirm launching SETUPNC.EXE /T upon logon.
