Excel spreadsheet in message body will not forward correctly

An excel spreadsheet was copied and pasted into the message body of a new message.  The original message arrives at the recipients correctly.  When one of those recipients tries to forward the message, the spreadsheet condenses down to a single row and the data is mixed up.
