Environment

NetIQ PlateSpin Migrate

Situation

During step 1.1 Collect Machine information a Hewlett Packard DL380 G9 with a Smart Array P44ar Controller fails with the message, "Linux job did not complete successfully." This occurs when the system is booted from the Linux Ram Disk (LRD).  The failure occurs at step 1.1 Collect Machine Information.

Resolution

To verify the driver issue, boot with the LRD and from a debug console run the following command:

fdisk -l

This command will list partition information for drives attached to the array controller. If no disk(s) are present, download the  HP Smart Array P440ar/2GB FBWC 12Gb 2-port Int SAS Controller drivers for SLES 11 and inject the drivers into the LRD as described in knowledge base article 7005990 - Linux Driver Injection to Ram Disk ISO, X2P Driver Package and Source Take Control Package Creation Instructions (See Ram Disk Driver Injection Procedure under the Resolution section).

Cause

The P440ar controller is not supported by the native drivers included on the Linux Ram Disk.

Additional Information

Download the P44ar drivers for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP3 from HP for use with  PlateSpin Migrate 12.1 and earlier.   A similar issue that is sometimes seen on these systems is 7018087 - Discovery Process Hangs At 1% On HP Servers with the Virtual Install Disk Enabled.  Review knowledge base article 7018087 if all drives attached to the P44ar controller are listed.
