Filr driver fails to install on PCs where Secure Boot is enabled

Environment

Novell Filr 2.0
Novell Filr Desktop client 2.0
Micro Focus Filr 3.0
Micro Focus Filr Desktop client 3.0

Situation

On some Windows 10 PCs, such as Windows 10 Anniversary Update v1607 the Filr Desktop client installation succeeds but the user is not able to see any files in the Filr folder. When the Filr driver status is checked (using command fltmc), it shows that the Filr driver is not installed. If manual installation of the Filr driver is attempted, it results in an error:

Load failed with error: 0x80070241
Windows cannot verify the digital signature for this file ...

Further investigation revealed that the Secure Boot mode is enabled on the PC which prevents installation of drivers that are not signed by Microsoft.

Resolution

A fix for this issue is available in the Filr 2.0 Hot Patch 3, available via the Novell Patch Finder. With this fix, an updated Desktop client with Microsoft signed driver is available.

An equivalent fix for Filr 3.0 Desktop client is also available via the Filr Online Update channel (Desktop client build 3.0.0.400).

Additional Information

To check Secure Boot status on the PC:
1. Open the Windows Run Window (Windows key + R)
2. Type msinfo32 and press Enter
3. Under System Summary, check value for 'Secure Boot State'

To check if Filr Driver is loaded:
1. Open a DOS-prompt (cmd) as Administrator
2. Type fltmc and press Enter
3. If you see FilrDriver with Num Instances=1, the driver is loaded.
