Environment

NetIQ PlateSpin Migrate 12.1

Situation

Cores per socket are not displayed correctly in WEB-UI While configuring a Migration job.
Error when trying to Power On a workload explaining the limitation of the license.

When clicking  on cores per sockets expected result should display correct number of Cores per socket available  on Target machine. The actual result only shows 8 Cpus to select.

Note:Vcenter 5.0 having 24 Cpus

No Issue with ESX 6.0,ESX 5.1 and ESX 5.5.

Resolution

This a limitation of the license being used by VMWare on the ESX server. The license in question is VMWare VSphere 5.0 Enterprise. This license in version 5.0 is limited to 8 vCPUs per VM (See documentation below). The hosts in the DRS cluster are assigned this license and thus cannot utilize more than 8 vCPUs. The VSphere client allows a workload to be configured with up to 24 vCPUs but when trying to Power On the workload an error is shown explaining the limitation of the license.

The following link explains the problem: https://communities.vmware.com/thread/450160?start=0&tstart=0

This link contains a table that shows the limitation for the VMWare VSphere 5.0 Enterprise license (see Maximum Virtual SMP):
