CIFS client will not travers newly created DFS junction.

Environment

Novell Open Enterprise Server 11 (OES 11) Linux Support Pack 2

Situation

Customer created a new DFS junction on a cluster resource. When trying to use the junction with a CIFS client an error is seen on Windows saying Network path not found.   /var/log/messages displays the following message:
CIFS[27772]: ERROR: SMB: SMB_Trans2GetDFSReferral: Failed to process DFS referral path.

Resolution

The issue was resolved by creating a CNAME record for the CIFS server name.

Additional Information

Clients using the NCP client are able to traverse the junction with out issue.
