Situation

Here is how to reproduce what PlateSpin does to create a VSS snapshot. For troubleshooting purpose.

- On the source server, go to
"C:\Program Files (x86)\PlateSpin Migrate Server\Controller\Packages\0\483eb955-94ac-45fd-baf3-b0813ce227bc\1\x64"

- In that directory create a .txt file "createinputvss.txt"

- Put the following in the file:

[Command]
Method=CreateSnapshot
[Arguments]
VolumesIDs=C:

- Open a command prompt at that location and run:
PlateSpin.Athens.SnapshotExecution.exe .\createinputvss.txt .\outputvss.ini

Ensure it works, and replace VolumesIDs=C: by all drive letters, on by one. Or add mulitple volumes with a comma C:, D:, E:.

To delete the snapshot:

- On the source server, go to
"C:\Program Files (x86)\PlateSpin Migrate Server\Controller\Packages\0\483eb955-94ac-45fd-baf3-b0813ce227bc\1\x64"

- Check the contents of outputvss.ini and grab the snapshotsetID. in the below example, we have "1ef09121-5c63-49bf-a4d6-af9f677d1ee3"

[Command]
Method=CreateSnapshot
[Return]
SnapshotSetID=1ef09121-5c63-49bf-a4d6-af9f677d1ee3
[ReturnDictionary]
C:\=079bbeb2-641d-4b32-a64c-1e727724b906

- In that directory create/modify a .txt file "createinputvss.txt"

- Put the following in the file:

[Command]
Method=DeleteSnapshotSet
[Arguments]
SnapshotSetID=1ef09121-5c63-49bf-a4d6-af9f677d1ee3

- Open a command prompt at that location and run:
PlateSpin.Athens.SnapshotExecution.exe .\createinputvss.txt .\outputvss.ini
