Novell GroupWise 2014
Novell GroupWise 2014 R2

With no more access to the GroupWise Archive FID Editor for releases after GroupWise 2014, how can archives be accessed if a FID change is made during a move of a user from one post office to another or if a user is deleted and re-added with a different FID.

Beginning in GroupWise 2014, archives began storing the user's GUID and password. This storing of these two components in an archive would only occur if a GroupWise 2014/2014R2 Windows Client touched the archive. Once a 2014/2014R2 client touches the archive, the client can open it based on the following order of tests:

A) If the FID matches, access is allowed

B) If the GUID matches, access is allowed. This will cover move user cases and FID collision cases.

C) If a password was stored, the client will prompt for it and allow access if the correct password is entered.

The archive is accessed in the directory structure "ofxxxarc" where xxx is equal to the current FID.  If the user has an archive that references their old FID,  the directory structure name will need to be changed to the new FID.

If the archive in question is old and has never been touched by a GroupWise 2014 or later client, a user can be created using the new GroupWise 2014 admin API with a specific FID that matches the FID of the archive in question.  A script to create a user with a specific FID can be found here .  Please follow all instructions when using this script.
