Environment

PlateSpin Migrate 12.1

PlateSpin Protect 11.2

PlateSpin Forge 11.2

Target machine: Virtual Machine (VM)

Situation

At the end of a migration, during a cutover or during a failover, the job is hanging at “Configuring NICs (1%):

On the target VM, the PlateSpin Configuration Service crashes and the below error is seen:

An unhandled win32 exception occurred in Configuration.Worker.exe [5876]. Just-In-Time debugging this exception failed with the following error: No installed debugger has Just-In-Time debugging enabled. In Visual Studio, Just-In-Time debugging can be anabled from Tools/Options/Debugging/Just-In-Time."

Also, the target network and NICs are not configured properly:

And from the vSphere Client, the VMware tools installation is hanging:

If a manual installation of the VMware tools is attempted, it would fail with

Could not write vale InstallPath to key \SOFTWARE\VMware, inc\VMware Tools. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.”:

Resolution

1) Turn off User Account Control (UAC) from the Windows Control Panel -> Manage Users.

2) Perform a manual installation of the VMware tools.

3) Reboot the target machine.

4) From there, the job should resume and the PlateSpin Configuration complete on target.

Cause

In some cases, the UAC may prevent the PlateSpin Configuration Service to complete on the target VM.
