Environment

NetIQ PlateSpin Protect 10.x, 11.x
NetIQ PlateSpin Forge 3.x, 4.x, 11.x
NetIQ PlateSpin Migrate 12.x (Web Console)

Situation

After adding a removed workload as an incremental the initial replication takes longer than normal.

Resolution

Let the job continue as normal and replication should return to normal speeds once the job has completed. You may also choose to run a full replication, as it will run at expected speed. After this is complete the workload should return to normal speeds.

Cause

PlateSpin uses a Block Based Transfer (BBT) driver to track changes at a block level. The BBT driver starts monitoring block level changes after a successful replication. As the workload was removed, PlateSpin must check using md5 to verify the block device map on the source is in sync with the target machines data already present. md5 hash calculation takes time and can impact the average data transfer speed.
