Environment

Novell GroupWise 2014
Novell GroupWise 2012
Novell GroupWise 8

Situation

GroupWise Client is configured to digitally sign and encrypt outgoing email
Global Signature is enforced.

When GroupWise Client is configured to send digitally signed emails, Global signature does not get attached to the outgoing email.

Resolution

Signatures have a hierarchy structure. Global Signatures can be set on the GroupWise system (GWIA), Domain, Post office. There is also signature that is set on the Client level. Global Signatures take effect on any of the places given below:
Post office
Domain
GroupWise System (top)

Workaround:

The User sending these digitally signed email can still attach his own signature. Every user has the ability to create multiple signatures. GroupWise client can be configured to prompt for signature before being sent out. If there needs to be some content, like a disclaimer that needs to go with an email, the user can create a custom email and add the disclaimer on it. The user can then add this signature for emails that are required to be digitally signed.

Cause

The admin can append the signature at the Post office/Domain/System level. Like adding company disclaimer on the signature set by the user. However, the emails can be digitally signed at the user level only. The client digitally signs the email before it leaves the client and reaches the Post office. There can be no modification done to this email, including adding signature or any other modification. If there are provisions to do that, that mail is no longer termed as secure and it defies the very purpose of digitally signing the mail from the user using the client. This is working as designed.
