Environment

NetIQ Access Manager 4.2.1
NetIQ Access Manager 4.2.1 Access Manager Console

Situation

  • Installing NetIQ Access Manager 4.2.1 on RedHat Enterprise Server Version 7.2 / RHEL 7.2 fails due to missing xntp package

  • NetIQ Access Manager 4.2.1 install.sh script returns error:

    Starting ntp daemon...

The necessary package xntp has not been installed. The Access Manager requires the tools provided by xntp for time synchronization. Install NTP tools and run this installer again.
    Terminating the installation.

  • The default installation of RedHat 7 Enterprise Server uses chronyd per default instead of xntp

Resolution

  • install ntp instead of chronyd

  • In case you like to keep chronyd you can disable the check for xntp my modifying the "install.sh" script
edit the install.sh script and modify  the "check_ntp" function call line to "#check_ntp" in order to remark
Note: Timesync required any very important in order to run NetIQ Access Manager. If you remove the check for ntp make sure time is synchronized / set correctly before installing NAM.
