Installing iManager 3.x breaks eDirectory 8.8 SP8

Environment

NetIQ iManager 3.x

Situation

iManager 3.0 was installed on a server running eDirectory 8.8 SP8.  The following issues can be seen:

LDAP is not listening on its ports.

NDSD has cored or will not start.

The iManager server instance will not load.

Resolution

An iManager 3.x installation upgrades NICI to 3.0.  As such, iManager 3.0 should only be installed on servers that run products that are compatible with NICI 3.0.  At the time of the release of iManager 3.0 only eDirectory 9 is compatible.

Therefore, iManager 3.0 should only be installed on a server after eDirectory has been upgraded to eDirectory 9.0.

Resolution after the fact depends on where the installation failed.  If iManager 3.0 has already been installed on a server running eDirectory 8.8 SP8 and NDSD is not running it might be possible to revert back to NICI 2.7.7.  Uninstall the NICI 3.0 rpms with the --nodeps option then reinstall NICI 2.7.7 from the latest 8.8 SP8 patch that was running on the server.  Restart NDSD.  If the upgrade installed Tomcat 8 and JDK 1.8 then iManager may have to be uninstalled and reinstalled as well.
