Microsoft Offline Files
Situation
"Offline File" functionality is desired with files stored on a Novell file server volume.
This feature is described as, "With offline files, you can access copies of your network files even when your computer isn't connected to the network."
Resolution
Use Microfocus FILR. Information about FILR is available here.
Alternatively, use the CIFS protocol. Information about CIFS is available here.
Cause
The Novell Client communicates with the Novell file server by means of the NCP protocol, which isn't enabled to support the APIs used by Offline Files. FILR is specifically designed to securely provide synchronization and control of offline files.
