Situation
When trying to install a printer on a Mac 10.11 (El Capitan), the following error is returned:
iPrint internal error - iPrint encountered an error -1 on OSX 10.11 (El Capitan)
iPrint internal error - iPrint encountered an error -1 on OSX 10.11 (El Capitan)
Resolution
There are two possible solutions:
1. Update the server to the latest maintenance patch. At the time of this TID, it is the March 2016 maintenance patch
2. Update the MAC client to version 6.03 included in oes11sp2/oes2015 March maintenance patch

Cause
The Mac client 6.01 with support for El Capitan is not fully compatible with iPrint server prior to the November maintenance patch.
