Environment

Novell Service Desk 7.1 User Configuration
Microsoft Active Directory on Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2

Situation

  • Upgraded LDAP server to Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2
  • LDAP imports into Novell Service Desk are no longer working
  • GUID attribute in LDAP mapping set to a string value attribute

The following or similar error may be seen in the ADS import summary:

ERROR:
Major error importing Administrators. java.lang.String cannot be cast to [B

Resolution

  1. Set GUID to objectGUID in Admin > Setup > LDAP > [LDAP server] > Advanced
  2. Rerun the LDAP sync

Cause

GUID attribute mapping was set to a custom string attribute.
