Novell iPrint Client for Windows
Novell iPrint Appliance
Novell Client for Windows

When using iCM (iPrint Client Management) with the iPrint Appliance and the Novell Client for Windows, the iPrint Client looks to the wrong directory in deciding if printers should be installed.

  1. Install the iPrint Client version 6.02 FTF 11Nov2015 version of the iPrint Client.
  2. Register the workstation to the address of the iPrint Appliance:
    • At each workstation which needs iCM, run the following command within a CMD prompt:
      • Syntax:
        • iprntcmd -S <iPrintAppliance IP Address>
      • Example:
        • iprntcmd -S
  3. If not already done so, import users from Active Directory to the Appliance using the LDAP Import feature.
  4. Configure a printer to be added to the imported user, group, or OU using iPrint Client Management
    • In iManager, click iPrint > iPrint Client Management.
  5. Restart the workstation.  The iPrint printer should be installed shortly after start up.

The iPrint Client has a feature which allows the end user or administrator to define which eDirectory tree to look to when deciding which printers should be installed using iCM.  This feature is a DOS command of:
iprntcmd -S <iPrintAppliance IP Address>
This feature is important with the iPrint Appliance because the user object will likely exist in two different trees: the main tree, and the iPrint Appliance tree which users are imported to.  The expectation is that the administrator or end user will configure the 'iprntcmd -S' feature to point to the workstation to the IP address of the iPrint Appliance.  When the Novell Client for Windows is installed, the iPrint Client will look to the tree which the Novell Client has authenticated to, and not the tree which the 'iprntcmd -S' is configure to. The iPrint Client version 6.02 FTF 11Nov2015 will honor the 'iprntcmd -S' command by causing the iPrint Client to look to the directory defined by the administrator or end user.
