Environment

SUSE Manager 2.1
Novell Open Enterprise Server 2015

Situation

OES2015 Pool and Updates channels are currently unavailable on SUSE Manager 2.1 and cannot be enabled.

Resolution

We can work around this issue by creating two custom repositories and channels using the following steps:

1. You will need your Organzation's mirror credentials from your SCC account:

- go to https://scc.suse.com and log in
- Click on the Organization tab at the top of the screen
- Click on the Organization Credentials tab
- Click the show password button and make note of the username and password for your organization

NOTE: the credentials are likely the same ones used with your SUSE Manager server

2. In the SUSE Manager webUI (ie http://<your suse manager fqdn>/) create two repositories:

- click on channels --> Manage Software Channels --> Manage Repositories
  > Click "+ Create Repository"
  > Enter the following information for the associated fields:
    - Repository Label: OES2015 Pool Repository
    - Repository URL: https://<mirrorcredential username>:<mirrorcredential password>@nu.novell.com/repo/$RCE/OES2015-Pool/sle-11-x86_64/
replacing the <mirrorcredential username> and <mirrorcredential password> with the information found in step 1
    - Click on "Create Repository"

- Create a repository for OES2015-Updates by Clicking "Manage Repositories" again
  > Click + Create Repository
  > Enter the following information for the associated fields:
    - Repository Label: OES2015 Updates Repository
    - Repository URL: https://<mirrorcredential username>:<mirrorcredential password>@nu.novell.com/repo/$RCE/OES2015-Updates/sle-11-x86_64/
replacing the <mirrorcredential username> and <mirrorcredential password> with the information found in step 1
    - Click on "Create Repository"

3. In the SUSE Manager webUI create two channels and associate the two repositories created in step 2 to them:

- Click Channels --> Manage Software Channels
  > Click + Create Channel
  > Enter the following information for the associated fields:
    - Channel Name: OES2015 Pool Channel
    - Channel Label: oes2015-pool-x86_64
    - Parent Channel: SLES11-SP3-Pool for x86_64
NOTE: The parent channel must be associated with the SLES 11 SP3 x86_64 (at the time this TID was created OES2015 is only supported on SLES 11 SP3 x86_64)
    - Channel Summary: OES2015 Pool Channel
    - Click on "Create Channel"
    - Click on "Repositories" tab at the top of the screen
    - Click the check box for "OES2015 Pool Repository"
    - Click on "Update Repositories"

- Click Channels --> Manage Software Channels
  > Click + Create Channel
  > Enter the following information for the associated fields:
    - Channel Name: OES2015 Updates Channel
    - Channel Label: oes2015-updates-x86_64
    - Parent Channel: SLES11-SP3-Pool for x86_64
NOTE: The parent channel must be associated with the SLES 11 SP3 x86_64 (at the time this TID was created OES2015 is only supported on SLES 11 SP3 x86_64)
    - Channel Summary: OES2015 Updates Channel
    - Click on "Create Channel"
    - Click on "Repositories" tab at the top of the screen
    - Click the check box for "OES2015 Updates Repository"
    - Click on "Update Repositories"

4. From the SUSE Manager terminal run the following commands:

spacewalk-repo-sync -c oes2015-pool-x86_64

followed by

spacewalk-repo-sync -c oes2015-updates-x86_64

This process can be done in the webUI, but using spacewalk-repo-sync from the terminal allows for instant feedback on whether or not the new channels are working.

If any errors occur check steps 1 - 3 and the associated entries.

Also, please note that these custom channels will not allow the SP Migration functionality to migrate
