Environment

Novell iPrint for Open Enterprise Server
Novell iPrint Appliance

Situation

Large printer drivers, such as the Xerox GPD and HP UPD, fail to upload to the Driver Store using iManager with the message of:
Check that the Driver Store (idsd) is loaded
Another symptom is the inability to create a printer driver profile with the following error:

Function address [NUMBER] caused a protection fault. (exception code [HEX Value here]) Some or all property page(s) may not be displayed.

Resolution

Resolution 1:
Note: This resolution applies to both the driver upload and profile creation symptoms.
  1. Apply the patch following patch:
  2. Copy/paste the follow long string of commands (one line of commands) into a terminal session of the iPrint Appliance (putty or other tool):
rcnovell-tomcat6 stop;mv /etc/opt/novell/tomcat6/conf/novell-tomcat6.conf /etc/opt/novell/tomcat6/conf/novell-tomcat6-edit;sed 's/lib64"/lib64 -Xmx1024M"/' /etc/opt/novell/tomcat6/conf/novell-tomcat6-edit > /etc/opt/novell/tomcat6/conf/novell-tomcat6.conf;chown wwwrun.www /etc/opt/novell/tomcat6/conf/novell-tomcat6.conf;chmod 755 /etc/opt/novell/tomcat6/conf/novell-tomcat6.conf;rcnovell-tomcat6 start;rm /etc/opt/novell/tomcat6/conf/novell-tomcat6-edit
Note: these commands will be of help only after the patch mentioned above is applied.

Resolution 2:
Note: This resolution applies to only the driver upload symptom.
Upload the printer driver using the command line method:
  • Run iprntcmd.exe in "Run as Administrator" mode.
    • Find the CMD executable, right-click, and choose "Run as administrator".
  • Type the following at the cmd prompt:
    • Syntax:
      • iprntcmd -U <IP or DNS address of iPrint Server> <user name> <password> c:\
    • Example:
      • iprntcmd -U 10.10.97.53 admin novell123 c:\
        • The user name format does not include the context.
