Unable to upgrade from IR10 client using NCP-based UNC path when Windows UAC is turned off

Environment

Novell Client 2 SP3 for Windows (IR10a)

Situation

When upgrading from Novell Client 2 SP3 for Windows IR10 to Novell Client 2 SP3 for Windows IR10a (or IR10b) using a NCP UNC-based path, when User Account Control (UAC) is disabled, the process will succeed up to the point where NICI is being installed.  Then, the NICI installation fails with a 1619 error, and the NICIInst32.log shows that Microsoft's MSIEXEC was trying to execute the .MSI from the UNC path rather than from any local cached copy of the .MSI.

Resolution

Fixed in Novell Client 2 SP4 for Windows.

Additional Information

Previous to a fix being available, the workaround was:

Add a "DownloadClient=Yes" directive to the "[Setup]" section in INSTALL.INI.

This will cause the installation set to be copied to a local temporary directory, and SETUP.EXE will be re-launched from that directory (the same as if UAC were enabled).
