Environment

Novell Client 2 SP3 for Windows
Microsoft Windows 7

Situation

The listing in Windows Explorer of a directory located on a Novell volume shows multiple entries for "Documents". Opening these folders shows the actual contents being what is expected; only the name is incorrect.

Viewing the same listing directly on the file server shows the correct directory names.

Resolution

Delete (or correct the contents of) the Desktop.ini file in each affected folder.

Cause

The Desktop.ini file, which contains commands relative to the customization of folder appearance and behavior, has been edited / become corrupted.

Additional Information

In the example above, where the folders are all named "Documents", the incorrect Desktop.ini file contained these lines:

[.ShellClassInfo]
LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-21770
IconResource=%SystemRoot%\system32\imageres.dll,-112
IconFile=%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll
IconIndex=-235

Which are the typical contents of a Windows 7 "Documents" folder.
