Linux Message Transfer Agent (MTA) does not start

Environment

Novell GroupWise 2012
Novell GroupWise 2014
Novell GroupWise 8

Situation

After starting the GroupWise Linux MTA by using rcgroupwise script, the MTA does not successfully start and creates no entries in the log file directory.

Resolution

Make sure the log directory and other directories that the MTA might be reading from and writing to are not pointing at a NFS mounted directory.  SAMBA/CIFS, NSS or local directory structures are supported for reading and writing.  Make the change in ConsoleOne/Admin Utility or startup file to point to a supported file structure.

Cause

Reading from and writing to a directory that is mounted as an NFS share is not supported in the GroupWise environment.  The file locking mechanisms of a NFS mounted volume can cause file access problems for a GroupWise agent.
