Unable to edit a Group Policy in ZCC

Novell ZENworks Configuration Management 11.3 Policies

Situation

Editing an existing Group Policy in ZCC
An error is seen after the Upload button is clicked

The following could be seen in zcc.log:

ERROR:
Error:  An error has occurred while saving the policy data.
java.lang.NullPointerException
    at com.novell.zenworks.datamodel.session.hibernate.HibernateAbstractSession.getBasicInformation(HibernateAbstractSession.java:1202)

Resolution

  1. Navigate to ZCC > Policies > [broken policy] > Settings
  2. Click the link for Primary Server Replication
  3. Make note of the custom content settings
  4. Click Revert to remove the custom settings
  5. Click OK
  6. Click the link for Satellite Server Replication
  7. Make note of the custom content settings
  8. Click Revert to remove the custom settings
  9. Click OK
  10. Reconfigure the custom content settings if necessary

Cause

A primary or satellite server had been removed from the zone, but the server information was stuck in the content settings for the policy.
