Novell Storage Manager 3.1

Situation

New events (especially user creates and moves) are 'stuck' on the Pending Events queue. The "Last Error" field in the event details dialog shows an error "169 : The requested name translation could not be performed."

Resolution

These steps must be taken for each policy meeting the conditions specified in the "Cause" section of this article.

If the default owner object in the policy was moved or renamed, edit the Owner Override option and select the object by its new name or location. Once selected, save the policy. Then, make the stuck events for this policy eligible.

If the default owner object was deleted, edit the Owner Override option and select a new default owner object (if desired). Once selected, save the policy. Then, make the stuck events for this policy eligible.

Cause

This commonly happens when the following conditions are met:
  • The effective policy for the events stuck with error '169' has the Owner Override option selected.
  • The object specified in the Owner Override option has been moved, renamed, or deleted in Directory Services.
When the owner override option in a policy is enabled, the object defined as the default owner is stored as a string (by FDN). If this object is renamed, moved or deleted, that object cannot be found in Active Directory or eDirectory by its previous FDN.
