Environment

NetIQ Directory and Resource Administrator 8.x

Situation

How do I uninstall a DRA server completely from the MMS?

How do I remove a secondary server completely from the MMS?

When De-commissioning a Directory and Resource Administrator (DRA) Server, there are times when some of the configuration settings fail to remove. These settings are stored in a few different locations, such as:

Local Registry on each DRA Server
DRA ADLDS (ADAM) Instance, DRA Created Partition
DRA ADLDS (ADAM) Instance, Configuration Partition
DRA Servers Hidden OU within Each Managed Domain

Resolution

Before attempting to manually remove entries related to a DRA Server, first verify that it has been fully removed from the Administration Servers list in the DRA Delegation and Configuration Console, while connected to the Primary DRA Server. Once this has been done, you can start to clean up the settings.

To Clean up the Registry:
    1. Remove any old DRA Servers from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Mission Critical Software\Onepoint\Administration\Data\Modules\ServerConfiguration\Servers
    2. Remove any old DRA Servers from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Mission Critical Software\Onepoint\Administration\Modules\ServerConfiguration\Servers
    3. Remove any old DRA Servers from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Mission Critical Software\Onepoint\Configurations\Administration\Servers

To clean up the DRA Created Partition in ADLDS (ADAM):

    1. Use ADSI locally on the Primary DRA Server to connect to the DC=DRA,DC=COM partition within the local DRA Server’s ADLDS (ADAM) instance.
      1. Remove any old DRA Servers from CN=DRAServers,CN=ReportingConfigurationRoot,DC=DRA,DC=COM
    2. To clean up the Configuration Partition within ADLDS (ADAM):
      1. Use ADSI locally on the Primary DRA Server to connect to the Configuration partition within the local DRA Server’s ADLDS (ADAM)

To clean up the Service Connection Points within Active Directory:

    1. Use Microsoft Directory Service Administration tools to view the Hidden System OU. You will need to enable Advanced View from within the DSA tool, in order to see Hidden OUs.
      1. Remove any old DRA Servers from the CN=DraServer,CN=System,DC=<DRA Managed Domain Name>
    2. Repeat this task for any managed Domain of the DRA Multi Master Set containing the old DRA Server(s).

    Cause

If the Primary Server is unable contact one or more secondary DRA Servers while updating the DRA Server list, the Primary Server may fail to fully remove the configuration data. Also if a DRA Server is De-commissioned before removing it from the MMS set, the same problem will occur.

    Additional Information

NetIQ Technical Support strongly recommends that you make a backup of your Primary DRA Server before attempting any configuration changes.
