Situation
/var/log/messages is reporting messages similar to the following
over and over again in the logs:
CIFS[7391]: ERROR: VERB: Tconx to (SYS) error No valid mount point
The volume name does not need to be SYS. Other than the logged messages, there does not appear to be any issues with CIFS and connections.

The volume name does not need to be SYS. Other than the logged messages, there does not appear to be any issues with CIFS and connections.
Resolution
These errors are logged with a client, user, script running on a
client, or application running on a client that tries to access a
volume or share that is not available in the list of CIFS exported
volumes/shares list (as reported by novcifs -sl). In this
specific example "SYS" is a special NCP/NSS volume and CIFS
normally does not include it in its list of exported
volumes/shares.
These messages are informational and does not indicate a problem with CIFS. The best way to stop the messages from being logged it to modify the scripts or applications to not attempt to access the volumes or shares that are not available in the CIFS export list.
