Environment

Novell GroupWise 2014
Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2

Situation

Unable to authenticate to send SMTP messages from IMAP/POP client when the Primary server is Windows and the secondary server is SLES
Unable to authenticate to send SMTP messages from IMAP/POP client with users that are on secondary post office server
Can't send messages when using IMAP/POP client
Unable to authenticate to send SMTP messages from Outlook

Resolution

  1. Launch Windows PowerShell from the primary Windows server
  2. Type New-ItemProperty -Path HKLM:\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\TCPIP6\Parameters -Name DisabledComponents -PropertyType DWord -Value 0xffffffff and press enter
  3. Reboot the Windows server

Cause

Windows is trying to use IPv6 instead of IPv4 which is what GroupWise is trying to use, so IPv6 needs to be disabled.
