Environment
Novell GroupWise 2012
Novell GroupWise 2014
Situation
Upgrading to GroupWise 2014 hangs
gwadminservice status shows dead
Upgrade screen hangs
No success screen during upgrade
Resolution
-
Install and launch ConsoleOne on the server holding the domain database and open the domain properties.
-
Update the UNC Path to reflect the location on the destination server (for example if the domain is located at /srv/grpwise/gwdom, update the path to that, NOT to the \\server\sharename\domainlocation path)
-
Follow the same steps for any other domains or post offices that you have
-
On the system it will show a URL to administer an existing GroupWise system. Launch a browser and go to that URL
-
On the browser it should give an output like the following "gwadmin-ipc authorize 31YkOU8O978h". Copy the whole statement.
-
On the linux server browse to /opt/novell/groupwise/admin using a terminal and type "./gwadmin-ipc authorize 31YkOU8O978h". Replace the command with the proper key that was copied in step 9.
-
The browser should automatically refresh to a new page.
-
Click on Upgrade an Existing Domain or Post Office to GroupWise 2014
-
Browse and add all the domain(s) and post office(s).
-
Click Next
-
Set in a password for the admin console.
-
Click Next
-
Click Finish
Alternatively ask for some recent GW2014 build instead of using a shipping code. Then re-run the install again using newer code.
