Environment

Novell GroupWise 2012
Novell GroupWise 2014

Situation

Upgrading to GroupWise 2014 hangs
gwadminservice status shows dead
Upgrade screen hangs
No success screen during upgrade

Resolution

  1. Install and launch ConsoleOne on the server holding the domain database and open the domain properties.
  2. Update the UNC Path to reflect the location on the destination server (for example if the domain is located at /srv/grpwise/gwdom, update the path to that, NOT to the \\server\sharename\domainlocation path)
  3. Follow the same steps for any other domains or post offices that you have
  4. On the system it will show a URL to administer an existing GroupWise system. Launch a browser and go to that URL
  5. On the browser it should give an output like the following "gwadmin-ipc authorize 31YkOU8O978h". Copy the whole statement.
  6. On the linux server browse to /opt/novell/groupwise/admin using a terminal and type "./gwadmin-ipc authorize 31YkOU8O978h". Replace the command with the proper key that was copied in step 9.
  7. The browser should automatically refresh to a new page.
  8. Click on Upgrade an Existing Domain or Post Office to GroupWise 2014
  9. Browse and add all the domain(s) and post office(s).
  10. Click Next
  11. Set in a password for the admin console.
  12. Click Next
  13. Click Finish

Alternatively ask for some recent GW2014 build instead of using a shipping code. Then re-run the install again using newer code.

Additional Information
