GWIA unable to receive mail only (firewall)

Novell GroupWise 2014

Situation

GroupWise Internet Agent is unable to receive any mail items.
GWIA not receiving mail, but able to send.
GWIA is listening on port 25, has bind exclusively enabled.

Resolution

  1. Verify the SuSE Firewall is properly configured or disabled.
    • To see if the firewall is running, from a terminal window:
      rcSuSEfirewall2 status

  2. External firewalls must also be properly configured. Verify the external firewalls have port 25 open and properly forwarded if needed. Note: This connection can be tested by telnet from an outside server: telnet <IP/DNS Address of GWIA> 25
