Environment

Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 (OES 2) Linux
Novell Open Enterprise Server 11 (OES 11) Linux

Situation

When some users/admins would login to any server, it would take a much longer time (viz. 30-180 seconds) than some other users in the same tree.

Resolution

This has been reported to engineering.

Cause

The users with longer login times had uidNumber values (on their eDirectory object) larger than 65500 -- the typical end of the LUM enabling range.

Additional Information

There are a number of options for this matter, including:
  1. decrease the uidNumber, of effected user, to below 65500.
This is best accomplished by using iManager --
    • Select View Objects (spyglass on top)
    • find user in question and select "modify object"
    • select "Linux Profile" tab
    • Click the "modify" button next to "User ID:".
This will select the next available number in the LUM pool

  2. utilize a separate administrative ID for these users in the particular tree.
This is a best practice to minimize exposure from unattended, unlocked workstations; as well as potential mistakes.
