SLES 11 SP2 fails to boot after upgrading to kernel 3.0.101-0.7.15.1 to ALUA enabled storages

Situation

After updating to SLES 11 SP2 kernel 3.0.101-0.7.15.1 a SAN attached system fails to boot or encounters a system crash after rescanning SCSI devices showing messages similar to:

Resolution

Fixed for SLES 11 SP2 as of kernel 3.0.101-0.7.17.1.
