Unable to connect mobile device to DataSync / GroupWise Mobilie Service (GMS)

Environment

Novell Data Synchronizer Mobility Pack
Novell GroupWise Mobility Service 2.0
Novell Open Enterprise Server 11 (OES 11) Linux
Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 (OES 2) Linux

Situation

The mobile device is unable to connect to server the server when DataSync is installed on OES
The mobile device is unable to connect to server the server when GroupWise Mobility Service (GMS) is installed on OES

Resolution

  1. Launch a terminal session and type rcnovell-httpstkd status to check if it's running.
  2. If it is running, this means apache is running and using the port that python needs to use for DataSync to work properly
  3. This can be verified by typing netstat -patune | grep 8120 | grep -i listen, the results will probably show httpstkd using the port

Please keep in mind that DataSync / GroupWise Mobility Service (GMS)  is NOT supported on OES.
