Cannot open .dot documents from library using word 2010 or newer

Cannot open .dot documents from library using word 2010+
Opening .dot file extension documents with Word 2007 works as expected.

This has been Reported to Engineering.

Steps to Duplicate:

• Import document into library with a .dot extension. 
• The icon shows that it thinks it is a word file (which it is)
• Chose open and nothing happens, although the document status shows opened.
