Environment
Novell GroupWise 2012
Novell GroupWise 8
Situation
How to allocate preferred internet addresses for selected users.
How to assign selected internet addresses for users.
GroupWise system has configured 3 or more domain addresses, need to have a user only be able to receive according to certain ones.
User should not be configured to receive according to all available internet addresses.
Resolution
In this scenario, configuration of the GroupWise system is for 3 domains: @domain1.com, @domain2.com, @domain3.com. In the example below, configuration is for user1 to receive mail @domain1.com and @domain2.com, but not @domain3.com. This is accomplished through GroupWise Nicknames and Internet Addressing rules.
-
Configure user1 to receive mail only @domain1.com:
-
Properties of GroupWise User object | GroupWise tab | Internet Addressing
-
Select Override for Internet domain name, recipients are known exclusively by this Internet domain name.
-
From the drop-down box, select the Internet domain name: domain1.com.
-
Select Apply and then Close.
-
-
Configure user1 to receive mail only @domain2.com:
-
Create Nickname for user1:
-
Properties of GroupWise User | GroupWise tab | Nicknames
-
Select Add Nickname.
-
Provide the location for the Nickname object, a unique ObjectID (i.e. user1a).
Note: Each Nickname must have a unique ObjectID, in this example, the nickname that was created had a unique ObjectID of user1a. If multiple Nicknames are being created, extend this sequence so that the next ObjectID is user1b. Configuration of proper Internet Addressing (how mail is received for user1) is done in the next step. -
Select OK.
-
-
Configure Internet Addressing of Nickname:
-
Properties of the Nickname created above (i.e. user1a) | GroupWise tab | Internet Addressing
-
Select Override for Preferred Address format and enter the user's original ID (i.e. user1).
-
Select Override for Allowed Address Formats, uncheck all Allowed Address Formats
Note: These Allowed Address Formats are in reference to the objectID for the Nickname (user1a). In this example, it is not preferred to be able to receive with user1a@domain2.com. -
Select Override for Internet domain name. Select the preferred domain name from the drop-down (i.e. domain2.com).
-
Select For incoming mail, recipients are known exclusively by this Internet domain name.
-
-
-
Verify correct EMail Addresses displayed in user's Internet Addressing section:
-
Properties of the GroupWise User object | GroupWise tab | Internet Addressing | View EMail Addresses should now display:
-
Allowed EMail Addresses: user1@domain1.com
-
Nickname EMail Addresses: user1@domain2.com
Note: Mail can now be received by user1@domain1.com, user1@domain2.com and not user1@domain3.com, which is an allowable Internet Address in this GroupWise system.
