Environment

Novell ZENworks Configuration Management 11.2 Imaging

Situation

Service novell-pbserv crashes when PXE client connects. After a failed attempt to image a device '/etc/init.d/novell-pbserv status' returns:
"Novell ZENWorks Imaging Service unused but pidfile exists"

Workstation trying to image may see "Preboot Server is not responding. The Product License might have expired"

Resolution

A fix for this issue is intended to be included in a future update to the product: however, in the interim, Novell has made a Patch available for testing, as part of a Monthly patch update: it can be obtained at https://download.novell.com/Download?buildid=Rbs5fYlojj0~ as "ZCM 11.2.4 Monthly Update 1 - see TID 7014163". This update should only be applied if the symptoms above are being experienced, and are causing problems.

Please report any problems encountered when using this Patch, by using the feedback link on this TID.

Workaround:

1) Make sure the primary server is assigned to a location which all server roles point to the primary server itself.

2) If multi LAN environment is not required, edit novell-pbserv.conf and comment out the following line:
#IPAddress=

Windows: %ZENWORKS_HOME%\conf\preboot\novell-pbserv.conf
Linux: /etc/opt/novell/zenworks/preboot/novell-pbserv.conf

3) Restart novell-pbserv service
